Pointing Dog Training Seminar

The Wapello County Conservation Board will be hosting a Pointing Dog Training Seminar on Saturday, 22 April 2017 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pioneer Ridge Nature Area. This seminar will be conducted by Mike Harryman of Silvercreek Kennels. Mike has trained pointing dogs for over 28 years while having trained four national champions. This seminar will be hands on covering basic training philosophies and demonstrating steps needed for you to successfully train your hunting dog. Participants will be taught how to develop a better bird dog and build a better relationship with your dog.
Training topics include:
Developing the ability to read your dogs behavior to help address problems before they occur
Introduction to birds, while discussing pointing expectations and drills
Basic commands: whoa, heel, come (obedience)
Use of electric training aids
Cost of this event is $25/person and all participants must pre-register by 18 April 2017 by calling 641 682-3091. We will initially meet at the Haybarn Shelter at Pioneer Ridge Nature Area which is located 6 miles south of Ottumwa, IA on Highway 63. Lunch will be included.
