Ferber Sculpture

The Herbert Ferber sculpture stands 18 feet tall and is an impressive piece made from welded steel to represent a hearth and plow. The sculpture was erected in 1977-78 when Ferber was commissioned by the City of Ottumwa to create a piece of art. Ferber was an internationally recognized abstract expressionist sculptor whose best-known sculptures are open, hollow forms in soldered and welded in metal. Ferber describes his work as open, airy and pierced space. Other works by Ferber can be found int he Dallas Museum of Art, the Honolulu Museum of Art and the National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
