It is not often that visitors to a town or city are encouraged by locals to walk down an alley. In Ottumwa, it's an absolute must - it's a walking art gallery.
McLean & West 2nd
The newest addition to the street art tour can be found at the corner of McLean Street and West 2nd Street. The piece, titled Love Where You Live, was designed and painted by local artist Becky Albertson.
Canteen Alley
The alley located between Main Street and Second Street serves as the cornerstone for a large and unique array of street art throughout downtown Ottumwa. There are two murals by local artists and several interactive pieces that serve as functional rainwater conveyance systems that reveal and celebrate the movement of water through the urban landscape.
100 Block of Main Street
Along the 100 block of Main Street are light up sculptures by artist Daniel Miller. Each of Miller's three sculptures symbolically engage the history and future of Ottumwa using inspiration from the river, agriculture, and the railroad.
200 Block of Main Street
The 200 block is home to two sculptures by artist Hilde DeBruyne. The works draw from the majestic views of the Des Moines River flowing through Ottumwa. In the alley behind the 200 block, you can find a large piece by Brad Covington in beautiful earth tones that covers almost the entire building facade
300 Block of Main Street
The 300 block is home to three metal sculptures by S.W. Huffman. Two along either side of the street and a third in the Jefferson Street parking lot. The courtyard near the Main & Jefferson Street intersection also houses a mural by Brad Covington and a sculpture by Gail Chavenelle.
Bridge View Center
Across the river at Bridge View Center, explore the art collection both inside and around the outside of the venue. You can even get interactive with the musical instrument art in Harmony Park, located behind Bridge View Center.
